Croatia Landscape 01

Human beings, regardless of nationality, religion, race or colour are anatomically structured to see light. The eye registers the frequencies of light and its colours and sends it to the brain, where it is transformed into the final images that we see.  Those images evoke different feelings like fear, anger, pain, happiness, tenderness, and love. Nature and landscape, the central subjects of my photos, often induce mixed feelings before I take the final image. I spend days and weeks exposed to the brutality of the weather from cold European winters to hot Australian summers waiting to capture nature’s magic moments. My intent is to always capture the beauty, spirituality and positive nature of that fleeting moment in time, yet in capturing the final image may lie long frustrating periods exercising patience and concentration whilst awaiting nature’s largesse. The camera is a tool helping me to observe this world. Through it I may see, learn, understand and note all the changes occurring around me. The spectacular changes in the light and colour last for a very short time — a minute or two. Most often they happen during the sunrise and sunset or some sudden weather development such as an incoming storm. Taking spectacular photos of rare natural phenomena is truly satisfying. Developing the skill and ability to predict the appearance of aurora borealis or a rainbow takes time, patience and preparation, but the final result is more than satisfying. Photography is a form of materializing light and showing its purpose, beauty and depth. To record nature that simply cannot be controlled has always been a challenge for me.  The superiority of nature, over which we have little or no control has indelibly impressed on me how insignificant we appear by comparison and yet there is always the realization that we are still an important and unique part of overall creation.
